Salary, Tips & Bonuses

As much as we like talking about our work culture, and other great aspects of working as a delivery driver at Just Eat, we know that at the end of the day, the pay is what makes the difference. Here is an overview of everything you need to know about salary, tips and bonuses at Just Eat.

When you set off as a Just Eat courier, you’ll get an hourly salary, holiday pay and more money-related perks. Joining us on the road will also help you develop valuable skills for your career. Here’s how it all works…

What are the financial benefits?

Without our dedicated couriers, there would be no Just Eat.

Because they keep our business on the move, we make sure their hard work is properly rewarded. When you set off with us in Switzerland, you’ll enjoy:

  • An hourly base salary, meaning you get paid anytime you’re working – even if you’re waiting for the next order to arrive or if you are waiting at the restaurant.

  •  Paid sick leave, 25 days paid vacation, vehicle allowance (depending on your vehicle), accident insurance and sickness insurance.

  •  The Refer a Friend program. If you recommend a friend who joins us, you can earn a tasty cash reward

Base salary, bonuses & tipping

What makes Just Eat unique as a leading employer in the food delivery business in Switzerland, is that couriers get paid per hour instead of per delivery. The salary of each Courier is paid out in a monthly salary cycle. As a rule, no salary payments in cash are made. The salary is paid once a month to the Courier’s bank account.

In addition to the gross hourly wage, the following supplement will be paid for all Couriers on top of the gross hourly wage together with the monthly salary:

  •  to cover the 13th month’s wages: 8.33% supplement

  • to cover the public holiday wages: 0.39% supplement

Supplementary remuneration and allowances related to specific work circumstances,

vehicle use or job function (e.g. working as Remote Courier or Courier Captain).

By working as a courier, you can earn a base salary per hour and vehicle allowance, depending on the vehicle type. This is without bonuses and tips, so you could earn even more, making it one of the best paying easy jobs to do. In the next few paragraphs, we’ll break down the different components that would make up your salary.

What is the base salary for Just Eat couriers?

Income calculation

The monthly income is based on the basic salary, including the 13th monthly salary and the national holiday allowance.

All values in the calculator are shown in gross, meaning before deduction of social insurance and any withholding tax.

In addition to the gross salary, each courier receives 5 weeks paid vacation. Vacation is not paid per hour, but during the vacation.

We also pay the following flat-rate expenses:

  • Own bike/ e-bike CHF 0.45 / per hour worked

  • Own scooter: CHF 0.28 / per km driven from restaurant to customer

  • Own phone CHF 0.12 / per hour worked

For the use of your own bike/ e-bike.

Example: 80 hours worked in one month, a lump sum of CHF 36.- is paid in the following month.

For the use of your own scooter.

Example: 80 hours worked in one month (424 km driven from the restaurant to the customer), in the following month a lump sum of CHF 119.- is paid out.

For the use of your own phone.

Example: 80 hours worked in one month, a lump sum of CHF 9.60 is paid in the following month.

How can couriers earn an even better salary?

On top of the base salary, 13th and bank holiday pay, every driver can take extra shifts, what we call “open shifts” up to a maximum of 45h a week (including the contractual hours). Open shifts are only published if the company has the business need for more working hours.

Open shifts are paid with the same base salary rate including 13th, bank holiday and as hourly payment the 5 weeks of holidays.

We are also working with different individual bonus types. If a bonus is applicable for you we will inform you over our communication channels.

Do Just Eat couriers get tips?

You can also earn tips! Some people might tip you in cash at the doors, others might use the app to show their appreciation. If you get tipped at the door, you can pocket it directly. Digital tips will be paid out tax- and social security free.

Do you get sick days or vacation days at Just Eat?

If you get sick – no worries. We’ve got you covered! Our employees get paid 88% of their regular salary from the very first day of sickness for 30 days a working year and after 80% up to 720 days in total.

You are also insured for accident which pays from the first day of accident leave 80%,

You are also receiving 5 weeks of paid holidays.
